Row 2 (increase): repeat steps 1 – 3
Row 2: block 1 complete
Step 4: slip stitch in top of ch 3 from previous row’s block. These are the skipped chains from first row block.
Step 5: Chain 3
Step 6: 3 DC around same ch 3. Row 2 complete (2 blocks)
Row 3: (Increase) Repeat steps 1 – 3
Repeat steps 4 – 6 to end of row.
Continue repeating steps 1 – 6 until you have reached the desired size and you want to stop increasing each row.
Note that each row will increase by 1 block – row 1 = 1 block, row 2 = 2 blocks, row 3 = 3 blocks, etc until you stop increasing each row.
My sample is a square of 5 rows so I will stop increasing and start decreasing after row 5.
Once Row 5 is complete we want to stop increasing and start decreasing in order to close and finish our square.
To stop increasing, DO NOT ch 6. Turn, and sl st into the top of each st from dc block just worked,
Corner now made
Repeat steps 4 – 6
Continue repeating steps 4 – 6 to end of row. Since we are not increasing, sl st to the ch 3 from the last block of row 5.
To decrease, sl st to top of ch 3 from last block of previous row.
Turn, sl st top of each st to ch 3
Continue repeating steps 4 – 6 to end of each row, do not increase at the end of the row.
Each decrease row will decrease by a count of 1 block. Row 6 = 4 blocks, Row 7 = 3 blocks, etc. until you finish with 1 block for row 9.
Continue repeatings steps 4 – 6
After completing the last block, sl st top of ch 3.
Square completed.
