How to Crochet the Shell Blanket Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Shell Blanket Crochet Stitch is a beautiful design with a subtle texture that is the same on both sides.

It works up easily and has a wonderful rhythm to it which makes it a great candidate for larger projects like blankets!

The pattern itself is a simple one row repeat comprised of little shell stitches.

The shells are simply worked in the chain one spaces below and are comprised of double crochet and single crochet stitches.

Notes

  • This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.

Instructions

To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of three stitches, plus one (3 + 1) for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.

Row One: 2 dc in the 4th ch from your hook, sk the next 2 chs, *[sc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the next st, sk the next 2 sts; Rpt from * across ending with [sc, ch 1, dc] in the final st. Ch 3, turn.

Row Two: 2 dc in the 1st ch-1 sp, *[sc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the next ch-1 sp; Rpt from * across to the final ch-3 sp, [sc, ch 1, dc] in the final ch-3 sp. Ch 3, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat row two. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
