Double Crochet Column Stitch Photo Tutorial

Column stitches are fairly fun to work. You begin by working your base stitch, such as a double crochet, you then work the next stitch by working through the post of the previous stitch in particular places along the post.

Materials
- medium/worsted weight yarn
- 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook
Abbreviations
- Ch – Chain
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Rpt – Repeat
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Sk – Skip
- Sl st – Slip stitch
- Sp – Space
- Yo – Yarn over
Notes
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
Instructions
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a foundation chain with a multiple of 2 stitches, plus 1.
For example, ch 21.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 3 (Counts as a dc), turn.
Row Two:
Dc in the next st, *yo insert hook under the top 2 front loops that you see about half way down on the post of the previous st, insert your hook into the next sc st, yo and draw through 3 loops on your hook, yo and then draw through the remaining 2 loops on your hook, dc in the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across, ending by working your final sc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 3 (Counts as a dc), turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows 2 and 3 for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
