How to Crochet a Cord Photo Tutorial

Learn how to crochet a cord using the half double crochet stitch with this complete photo tutorial.
I recently designed the Wrap and I wanted it to have a cord for the waist. I wanted something reversible, somewhat stretchy and comfortable – not too thick or clunky yet durable. I decided on this crochet cord using the half double crochet stitch and I am glad I did.
So it's time for me to show you how to crochet a cord.
Materials
- worsted weighted yarn
- crochet hook
- stitch markers
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- hdc = half double crochet
- st = stitch
Instructions
Using the stitch markers will help you become accustomed to stitch placement at first but it shouldn’t take long before you won’t even need the stitch markers!
Row 1: With Color B, ch 4 (place st marker in 3rd ch from hook), hdc in 4th ch from hook, turn work towards you and place another st marker in the two loops at the top and in the back of the hdc just made (2 loops closest to hook).
Row 2: ch 2, turn, hdc in first st marker (from beginning ch), place st marker in the 2 loops at the top and in the back of the hdc just made.
Row 3: ch 2, turn, hdc in the 2 loops in the st marker farthest from your hook.
Repeat row 3 to desired size.
