Materials

  • 4.5 mm / US 7 hook
  • WeCrochet Wool of the Andes (worsted weight (4), 100% superwash wool, 50g/1.75oz, 100m/110yd) in Brass Heather. You will need about 35g / 70 m / 77 yd.

  • Measuring tape

  • The Sample is approximately 8 cm / 3.25” tall and 127 cm / 50” wide.
  • The Bird Print Stitch requires a stitch multiple of 30 st.

Gauge

  • The gauge for this pattern is 17.5 st by 13 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.

Abbreviations

  • st = stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • fptr = front post treble crochet
  • fpdtr = front post double treble crochet

Special Stitches

Front post treble crochet (fptr) = Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back to front behind the indicated double crochet post below, yarn over, and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, and pull through all remaining loops.

Front post double treble crochet (fpdtr) = Yarn over three times, insert hook from front to back to front behind the indicated double crochet post below, yarn over, and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, and pull through all remaining loops.

Row 6: Ch 2, dc across, turn.

Note: Make sure not to skip the center stitch as it will be pulled tighter due to the different post stitches. Check your stitch count if needed (should be 210st at the end of the row).

Row 7: Ch 1, [sc 18, fpdtr around all post stitches below, sc 11] across, turn.

Row 8: Ch 2, dc across, turn.

Row 9: Ch 1, sc across, turn.

Row 10: Ch 2, dc across, turn.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
