Are you fond of geometric designs? They are everywhere! In fact, nature has one of the greatest examples of geometric design, the honeycomb.

Crochet even has it own version of a geometric honeycomb like design. Have you ever heard of the Trellis Honeycomb Crochet Stitch?

By taking a look at this stitch, you’ll already understand why this stitch is named Trellis Crochet Honeycomb Stitch. It creates a rectangular fabric with repeating open holes mimicking a honeycomb.

This stitch is so quick and easy to make, it’s perfect for more advanced beginners. You definitely won’t have a hard time understanding how to make this stitch since it uses the basic stitches only.

Instructions

To make patterns using the Honeycomb Trellis Crochet Stitch, you need to work on multiples of 5 (10,15,20,25,30,etc.) then add 2 (7,12,17,22,27,32,etc)

For this tutorial we’ll be using 22 stitches.

Chain 22.

Row 1: 1 sc (single crochet) in second chain from hook, then 1 sc in each chain across. Chain 1, then turn.

Row 2: Chain 1, and sc in the next two stitches. * Chain 5, skip 2 sc, then sc in the next 3 stitches.* Repeat this pattern until the last 4 sc. Make another chain 5, then skip 2 stitches. Sc in the last two stitches and chain 1. Turn.

Row 3: Make 1 sc in the first stitch. * 5 Sc in the chain 5 arch, then skip the next stitch. Sc in the next stitch, and skip the next stitch again. * continue making this pattern until the last 2 stitches. Skip the next stitch, and sc in the last stitch. Chain 5, and turn. This is considered as a treble crochet and 2 chains.

Row 4: Skip the first 2 stitches, then 1 sc in the next 3 stitches. *Make a chain 5, then skip the next 3 stitches. Make 1 sc in the next 3 stitches.* make this pattern until you get to the last 2 stitches. Chain 2, skip the next stitch, then make a treble stitch in the last stitch. Chain 1, and turn.

Row 5: Chain 1, and sc in the first stitch. Make 2 sc in the space created by the chain 2. Skip the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, then skip the next stitch again. * Make 5 sc in the arch made by the chain 5. Skip the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, then skip the next stitch again.* Make this pattern until the last chain 2 space. Make 2 sc in the chain 2 space, then sc in the 3rd chain of the chain 5 in the previous row. Chain 1, then turn/

Row 6: Chain 1, and sc in the first two stitches. * Make a chain 5, then skip 3 stitches. Sc in the next 3 stitches.* Repeat the pattern until the last 5 sc. Chain 5, skip 3 stitches, and make a sc in the last two stitches.

Repeat rows 3 to 5 to make it longer.
