8 Cookware Cleaning Tips

Whether you run your pots and pans through a dishwasher or hand wash them, sometimes your cookware needs an extra boost to get clean. Cleaning pots and pans with these simple products can provide this boost. Here's what you need to know about using baking soda, Alka-Seltzer, Coca-Cola, Vinegar, and more to clean cookware and bakeware.

1. Alka-Seltzer.

To clean baked-on food from pots, pans, or casserole dishes, fill the cookware with water, drop in six Alka-Seltzer tablets, let soak for one hour, and then scrub as usual.

2. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.
To clean baked-on food from pots and pans, fill the pot or pan with enough water to cover the food baked inside, add one tablespoon Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, place on the stove, and bring to a boil for five minutes. Let cool and then scrub with a sponge, rinse, and dry.

3. Bounce.

To remove baked-on food and grime from a pot, pan, or casserole dish, go to your laundry and grab that box of Bounce dryer sheets. You’ll notice that Procter and Gamble has conveniently designed a sheet of Bounce to fit perfectly in a Corningware or Pyrex casserole dish. Fill the pot, pan, or casserole dish with water, float a sheet of Bounce in it overnight, and in the morning, use the wet sheet of Bounce to wipe out the cookware. The antistatic elements in Bounce loosen the baked-on food. And there will be no static cling either.

4. Cascade.

To clean baked-on food from a pot or pan, pour two tablespoons Cascade dishwasher detergent in the cookware, fill with hot water, wait thirty minutes, and rinse clean. The phosphates in Cascade loosen all the baked-on food.

5. Coca-Cola.

If you burn a pot or pan on the stove and want to clean out a brown burn stain, boil some Coca-Cola in the pot or pan. The burn stain will come off.

6. Pam Cooking Spray.

To clean and revitalize wooden patio furniture with a natural finish, spray the items with Pam Cooking Spray and buff with a clean, soft cloth. The oils rejuvenate the wood.

7. Efferdent.

If you boil all the water out of a pot and want to clean out the brown burn stain, fill the pot with water and drop in two or three Efferdent denture cleansing tablets. Let the pot sit overnight. In the morning, use a sponge to wipe away that otherwise difficult burn stain. (You can also toss your dentures in the pot at the same time and kill two birds with one stone.)

8 .Heinz White Vinegar.

To clean baked-on food from pots, pans, or casserole dishes, fill the cookware with equal parts Heinz White Vinegar and water; let stand for thirty minutes; scrub with a sponge in hot, soapy water; and rinse clean.
