Materials

  • cotton yarn
  • 5 mm crochet hook

Instructions

This stitch uses a multiple of 16+5 stitches. To make this example, I made 37 chains plus 3 extras, which count as the first stitch of the first row.

Row 1: 1 double crochet into the 5th chain. *Chain 2 and skip 3 chains, 2 double crochet in the following chain. 3 double crochet. Chain 3, skip 3 chains, 3 double crochet and 2 double crochet in the following chain, chain 1 and skip 2 chains*. Repeat from * to * until there are 3 chains left, chain 1, skip 1 chain and 2 double crochet.

Row 2: chain 3 and 1 double crochet. *Chain 1, skip the arch formed by the chains on the previous row, 3 double crochet in the next 3 stitches and 1 decrease. Chain 5 and skip the arch from the previous row. Decrease 1, 3 double crochet and chain 1*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left** and work them in double crochet.

**Attention! Remember that the chains from the previous row count as the first stitch, so you should always work the last stitch by inserting your hook into the 3rd chain of the previous row.

Row 3: chain 3 and 1 double crochet. *Skip the following arch, 2 double crochet and 1 decrease. Chain 3 and 2 double crochet in the center chain of the arch from the previous row. Chain 3, 1 decrease and 2 double crochet. Chain 1*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left** and work them in double crochet.

**Attention! The last repeat is left incomplete, so in the last repeat do not make the last chain of the repeat.

Row 4: chain 3, 1 double crochet. *1 double crochet in the following stitch and 1 decrease. Chain 3, skip the arch from the previous row, 3 double crochet in the following stitch, chain 1 and 3 double crochet in the following stitch. Chain 3 skip the arch from the previous row, 1 decrease and 1 double crochet*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left and work them in double crochet.

Row 5: chain 3, 1 double crochet and 1 decrease. *Chain 3, skip the arch from the previous row, 2 double crochet in the following stitch and 2 double crochet. Chain 2, skip the arch from the previous row, 2 double crochet and 2 double crochet in the following stitch. Chain 3, skip the arch from the previous row and 1 triple decrease*. Repeat from * to * until there are 4 stitches left**. 1 decrease and 2 double crochet.

**Attention! The last repeat is finished before the triple decrease. You should end your last repeat without working the triple decrease.

Row 6: chain 3, 1 double crochet and skip the stitch and the arch from the previous row. *Chain 2, 2 double crochet in the next stitch, 3 double crochet, chain 3 and skip the arch from the previous row. 3 double crochet, 2 double crochet in the following stitch, skip the arch, the following stitch, and the following arch. Chain 1*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left**. Chain 2 and 2 double crochet.

**Attention! The last repeat is left incomplete, so you should end the last repeat after working the 2 double crochet in the same stitch.

Repeat rows 2 through 6 until you have the desired length.
