Crochet Chevron Swirls Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Crochet Chevron Swirls Stitch is a lacey double-sided stitch pattern made up of double crochet clusters with curvy peaks. It’s so fun to make and likely to be your new favorite chevron stitch variation!

Because it creates slightly rounder points than traditional chevron stitch and is made mainly of bobble stitches, it gives your fabric a beautiful ice cream-like swirls effect, especially when using multiple colors.

Materials

• Acrylic DK Yarn
• 4.5mm crochet hook

Abbreviations

• st(s) – stitch(es)
• ch(s) – chain(s)
• sk – skip
• yo- yarn over
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• bo – bobble stitch made with 3 incomplete double crochet

Special Stitches

Bobble stitch made with 3 incomplete double crochet (bo) – This bobble is made out of 3 incomplete double crochets made into the same stitch or chain space, joined at the top.

To make an incomplete double crochet stitch: yarn over, insert your hook into the next available stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (2 loops on your hook). Leave the incomplete double crochet stitch on your hook.

Repeat the previous steps and create 2 more incomplete double crochet stitches into the same stitch (you will have 4 loops on your hook).

Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.

Notes

• The stitches between ( ) are to be made into the same stitch or chain space (as instructed).
• The stitches between * * are to be repeated as many times as instructed.
• If the pattern contains stitches between ** **, they are to be repeated as many times as instructed, including the * * repeats within.

Instructions

Starting Chain: This pattern requires you to chain multiples of 17chs + 3chs. My starting chain is 54chs.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and in all remaining chs

Row 2: Ch3 (counts as 1dc), sk2, bo, sk2, (3dc) in next, sk2, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next, *sk2, (3dc) in next, sk2, bo, sk4, bo, sk2, (3dc) in next, sk2, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next*, repeat from * until you have 9sts left, sk2, (3dc) in next, sk2, bo, sk2, dc in last stitch.

Rows 3 & 4: Except for the 1st and last dc, we will work all stitches in the spaces between the dc clusters below.

Ch3 (counts as 1dc), bo in next space, (3dc) in next space, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in the ch3 space below, *(3dc) in next space, bo in next, sk next space below (the space between the 2 bobbles below), bo in next space, (3dc) in next space, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in the ch3 space below*, repeat from * until you have crocheted in the last ch3 space, (3dc) in next space, bo in next space, dc in the last stitch (the top ch of ch3 you made at the beginning of previous row).

Row 5: ch1 (does not count as a stitch), hdc in next 8sts, (3hdc) in the ch3 space below, *hdc in next 14sts, (3hdc) in the ch3 space below*, repeat from * until you have crocheted in the last ch3 space, hdc in next 8sts.

From this point on, repeat Rows 2-5 until you have the desired length to your work.
