1. Clean jewelry
Drop your dull-looking jewelry into a glass of fizzing Alka-Seltzer for a couple of minutes. It will sparkle and shine when you take it out.
2. Clean your coffeemaker
Fill the water reservoir of your drip coffeemaker with water and drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets. When the tablets dissolve, run a brew cycle to clean the tubes. Rinse the chamber out thoroughly, and run a brew cycle again with plain water.
3. Clean a vase
That residue at the bottom of narrow-necked vases is easy to clean if you bubble it away. Fill half the vase with water and add two Alka-Seltzer tablets. When the fizzing stops, rinse the vase clean.
4. Clean glass cookware
Say goodbye to scouring those stubborn stains on ovenproof glass cookware. Just fill the container with water and add up to six Alka-Seltzer tablets. Let it soak for an hour and the stains should easily scrub away.

7. Make a lava lamp
In a clear plastic bottle, add water until about one-quarter full. Pour in vegetable oil to the halfway mark and wait for the oil and water to separate. Add ten or twelve drops of food coloring which will fall through the oil and into the water. Cut an Alka-Seltzer tablet into four or five pieces and drop them in. When the fizzing starts, colorful bubbles will start floating around inside the bottle. Take your “lamp” into a dark room and shine a flashlight up through the bottom and watch it light up!
8. Whiten clothes
To get rid of yellow stains in white cotton clothes, fill a sink with a gallon of warm water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets. When the water is fizzing, toss in your dirty whites, and let them soak for 20 or 30 minutes. Most stains will just disappear, but a little scrubbing will handle the tough ones. Hang dry (in the sun, if possible) and admire your bright whites.
