How to Crochet the Alternating Puff Stitch Tutorial

Today we’ll be learning how to crochet the Alternating Puff Stitch.
The puff stitch is a favorite of mine. It gives crocheting an extra air of elegance!
We will make them into V’s for this stitch, and then alternate them in a neat way!
The result is a classic stitch I know you’ll love.
Materials
- Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver, but you can use anything)
- H/5mm Hook
Abbreviations
- fsc - foundation single crochet
- ch - chain
- dc - double crochet
- sk - skip
- st(es) - stitch(es)
- sp - space
Special Stitches
YO, insert hook into indicated st. YO, pull up a loop. (YO, insert hook into same st, YO, pull up a loop) 2 times. YO, pull through 6 loops on hook. YO, pull through last 2 loops on hook.
Instructions
Fsc a multiple of 4+3 (to start with a chain stitch, you’ll need a multiple of 4, and then one row of single crochet).
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in next fsc. *Sk next fsc, (puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next fsc. Sk next fsc, dc in next fsc. Rep from * until 1 fsc left. Dc in last fsc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc. Sk next puff st, dc in next ch-2 sp. *Sk next puff st, (puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next dc. Sk next puff st, dc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * until 1 puff st and 2 dc are left. Sk last puff st, dc in last 2 dc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc. (Puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next dc. *Sk next puff st, dc in next ch-2 sp. Sk next puff st, (puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next dc. Rep from * until 2 dc left. Dc in last 2 dc, turn.
Rep rows 2-3 for stitch pattern!
