How to Crochet the Conch Stitch Photo Tutorial

Sometimes it is pleasantly surprising to see how different combinations of basic crochet stitches can be so beautiful and versatile.

In this photo tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the Conch Stitch – a wavy pattern with a marine touch, perfect for your winter knitwear.

Materials

• crochet yarn
• 7mm crochet hook

Instructions

To work this stitch, you will first need to make a base chain. Chain a multiple of 6, plus 1 extra.

Rows 1 and 2: work the entire row in single crochet. When you reach the end, make 1 chain to continue on to the next row.

Row 3: begin the row with 1 single crochet. Next we’re going to make the shell.

*You’ll always start the shell by pressing on the last stitch you crocheted.

Chain 3.

Next double crochet 4, but don’t close them off (skip the last step of the stitch).

When you work the fourth double crochet, close this stitch together with all the other double crochets on your hook.

Skip 3 stitches, single crochet 3.*

Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Chain 1 to continue on to the next row.

Rows 4, 5, and 6: Work the entire row in single crochet, working a chain at the end to continue onto the next row.

Row 7: 4 single crochet, *make a conch: chain 3, double crochet 4, closing them together, skip 3 stitches, 3 single crochet*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Chain 1 to continue on to the next row.

Rows 8, 9, and 10: Work the entire row in single crochet, working a chain at the end to continue onto the next row.

From here, you will repeat rows 3 through 10 until you reach the needed length.
