How to Crochet the Griddle Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Griddle crochet stitch pattern is one of those classic stitch patterns that everyone should have in their repertoire.

It is a versatile crochet stitch that is so easy to work with satisfying results. The pattern is reversible so it is a great stitch for those projects where you wish to showcase the front and back. It is not too dense and features a beautiful subtle texture. It’s worked in a basic repeat of single and double crochet stitches so it’s great for the beginner and more advanced crocheter alike!

  • medium/worsted weight yarn
  • 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook

Abbreviations

  • Ch – Chain Stitch
  • Dc – Double Crochet Stitch
  • Rpt – Repeat
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch

Notes

  • This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.

Instructions

To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need an even number of stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 30.

Row One: Sc in the 4th ch from your hook (starting ch 3 counts as a dc), *dc in the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Two: Dc in the 1st, sc in the next, * dc in the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern you will simply repeat row 2. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
