How to Crochet the Twig Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Twig Stitch Crochet Pattern is a dainty design created almost entirely out of single crochet and chain stitches.

The end result is very pretty as a solid fabric that is nearly the same on both sides. The Twig Stitch is one that you will want to have on hand for almost any crochet project, from crochet baby blankets, to washcloths and even crochet garments!

Materials

• worsted weight yarn
• 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook

Abbreviations

• Ch – Chain Stitch
• Rpt – Repeat
• Sc – Single Crochet
• Sl St – Slip Stitch
• Yo – Yarn Over

Notes

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need an odd number of chain stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.

Instructions

Row One: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

Row Two: Sc in the 1st st, sk the next st, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the next st, *sk the next st, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the next st; Rpt from * across, sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.

Row Three: Sc in the 1st st, *3 sc in the next ch-1 sp; Rpt from * across, sc in the top of the final st. Ch 1, turn.

Row Four: Sc in the 1st st, sk the next st, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the next st, *sk the next 2 sts, [sc, ch 1, sc] in the next st; Rpt from * across until 2 sts remain, sk the next st, sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows 3 and 4. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
