How to Crochet the Guardrail Stitch Photo Tutorial

This Guardrail Stitch crochet pattern is easy to work and perfect for your crochet blankets, bags, shawls, sweaters and more!
I love how versatile this crochet stitch pattern is! It’s easy to work as a two row repeat, is not too bulky or dense and has beautiful drape.
I came up with this stitch combination while playing around with another one and I love the result.

Instructions
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need to chain and odd number of stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.
Row One: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row Two: Hdc in the 1st st, sk the next st, *2 hdc in the next st, sk the next stitch; rpt from * across, hdc in the final st, ch 1, turn.
Row Three: Sc in the 1st st, working in the 3rd loop of each st, sc in each st across until 1 st remains, sc in the top of the final st. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, repeat Rows two and three. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
