How to Crochet the 3D Twisted Shell Stitch Photo Tutorial
The 3D Twisted Shell Crochet Stitch is a thick, very easy to work, textured crochet pattern that you are going to love!
There are so many wonderful things about this stitch. First it is only comprised of a couple different crochet stitches including half double crochet, double crochet stitches and front post double crochet stitches. Secondly it is an easy one-row repeat. Thirdly, the finished fabric is so thick and squishy. And finally, the final fabric that is created is reversible being the same on both sides!
The texture is striking and is going to look wonderful in your crochet projects including (but not limited to!) your bags and blankets.

Materials
- medium/worsted weight blended fibre yarn
- 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook
Abbreviations
- Ch – Chain Stitch
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Rpt – Repeat
- Sl St – Slip Stitch
- Yo – Yarn Over
Notes
- This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
- To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of 4 stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 32.
Instructions
Row One: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook, dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two: Hdc in the 1st st, ch 1, sk the next 3 sts, 4 fpdc around the next st, *sk the next 3 sts, 4 fpdc around the next st; Rpt from * across, hdc in the top of your turning ch. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern you will simply repeat row two. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
