Materials

  • 3.5mm (E/4) Crochet Hook
  • 25yds DK (8ply) Yarn – Drops Cotton Light
  • Tapestry Needle

Finished Size

  • Coaster Size: 3.75″ (9cm)
  • Coaster Thickness: 0.25″ (0.5cm)

Gauge

  • 16 stitches + 8 rows = 4″/10cm in double crochet

Abbreviations

  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • ch – chain stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • dc2tog – double crochet 2 together
  • camel sc – camel single crochet

Special Stitches

Camel Single Crochet (camel sc)

Insert hook in the next st, but not through the front OR back loop, but instead an extra loop that is behind the st. YO, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). YO, and pull through 2 loops on hook.

Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog)

YO, insert hook into next stitch. YO, pull back through stitch (3 loops on hook). YO, pull through 2 loops. YO, Insert hook into next stitch. YO, pull back through stitch (4 loops on hook). YO, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook). YO, pull through all the loops on your hook.

Notes

  • This coaster is worked in the round. It is imperative to check gauge and maintain an even tension throughout to ensure the coaster doesn’t ruffle/pucker.

Meadowlark Coasters Crochet Pattern

Ch2 using “Light Jeans Blue” yarn and 3.50mm hook.

Rnd 1: *1 dc2tog, ch2 in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first dc2tog. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Change yarn colour to “Pearl Grey”. Attach yarn to first ‘ch2’ space made in previous rnd. Ch2, 3 dc in same ‘ch2’ space. *4 dc in next ‘ch2’ space. Repeat from the * 5 times. Join with sl st in ch2. (24 sts)

Rnd 3: Change yarn colour to “Lime”. Ch1, *1 dc2tog, ch3. Repeat from the * 12 times. Join with sl st in first dc2tog. (12 sts)

Rnd 4: Change yarn colour to “Pearl Grey”. Attach yarn to first ‘ch3’ space made in previous rnd. Ch2, 3 dc in same ‘ch3’ space. *4 dc in next ‘ch3’ space. Repeat from the * 11 times. Join with sl st in ch2. (48 sts)

Rnd 5: Change yarn colour to “Light Jeans Blue”. Ch1, 1 camel sc in same st. 1 camel sc in next 47 sts. Join with sl st in 1st st. (48 sts) Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Rnd 6: Change yarn colour to “Light Jeans Blue”. Insert hook in between posts of 2 dc’s from “Rnd 2”, pull up a loop. *Insert your hook into the next space in between posts of dc’s, yarn over and pull through your work, then pull through the loop on your hook, completing a sl st. Repeat from the * 24 times.

Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
