How to Crochet the Bramble Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Bramble Stitch crochet pattern features a couple of really great, textured crochet stitches.

One of those stitches is one of my favourites: the herringbone single crochet! The stitch creates a braided-like texture that is pleasing to the eye.

The other crochet stitch pattern featured in the Bramble stitch is the crossed half double crochet. It provides a bit of variation to the design and has an easy rhythym to it when you work it.

The two stitches together create a beautiful design that is not quite the same on both sides, but that is equally pretty! I would not hesitate to use it in a project where both sides might be on display.

  • Hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • Hsc – Herringbone Single Crochet (Herringbone Single Crochet (Insert your hook through loop on the front of the post of the previous st, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on your hook. Notes

  • This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
  • To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need an odd number of stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.

Instructions

Row One: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, hsc in the next st and each remaining st across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Two: Hdc in the 1st st, *sk next st, hdc in the next st, hdc in the previous skipped st working around the st just made; Rpt from * across until 1 st remains, hdc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.

Row Three: Sc in the 1st st, hsc in the next st and each remaining st across. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
