Spider Stitch Crochet Tutorial

This spider stitch pattern is made up of the easiest basic stitch!

The spider stitch is a variation of the single crochet stitch. It is a fancy liking stitch pattern that is very beginner-friendly. It is also a great stitch to use by more advanced crocheters. So, are you ready to learn how to crochet spider stitch? Let’s take a look!


  • A crochet hook H/5mm
  • Scissors
  • Needle


  • 1 skein of yarn or any weight or type of yarn will work.


To make the spider stitch pattern you need the following stitches and abbreviations:

Slip Knot

Use the crochet hook to draw the yarn through the loop and pull the loop until tight

Chain (CH)

Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front.

Pull the hook with the yarn, through the loop that is on your hook

Skip (SK)

Skip the next chain and put your hook into the following chain or stitch. This is indicated by SK 1

Single Crochet (SC)

Start with one loop on your hook

Slide the hook in the chain stitch. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull the yarn through the chain stitch.

You now have 2 loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook and draw it through both loops on the hook


Follow the stitch pattern descriptions below to crochet spider stitch:

Foundation Make a slip knot and crochet an odd number of chains. For this swatch, I chained 17 chains

Row 1 Insert hook in the 3rd chain from hook, and crochet 1 SC, CH 1, and 1 SC in this chain. * Skip 1 chain then 1 SC, CH 1, 1 SC in the next chain. Repeat from * all the way across the foundation row until the last 2 chains. Skip 1 chain and end with 1 SC in the final chain. CH2 and turn

Row 2 Insert in the first chain space in the row below crochet 1 SC, CH 1, and 1 SC. * SK 2 stitches and crochet 1 SC, CH 1, and 1 SC in the next chain space. Repeat from * across the end of the row. Crochet 1 SC in the final stitch. CH 2 and turn
