Garter Stitch Crochet Tutorial

This Garter Stitch is very beginner-friendly, and it looks like a knit stitch!

Especially, if you use a thick yarn with a thick hook, it makes this stitch very easy to learn. It is a great stitch to use in home decor items but you can also use it to make other items. So, are you ready to learn how to make the Garter Stitch crochet? Let’s take a look!

TOOLS

  • A crochet hook N/10mm
  • Scissors
  • Needle

MATERIAL

For this swatch, I used T-shirt yarn because it is very stretchy but you can also use cotton or acrylic yarn

HOW TO MAKE THE GARTER STITCH CROCHET

The turning chain at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

Foundation Make a slip knot and chain any number of chains

Row 1 Slip Stitch 1 in the 2nd chain from the hook in the back bump. SL ST BLO in each of the next chains. CH 1 and turn

Row 2 Slip Stitch in the back loop of the first stitch. SL ST BLO in each of the next stitches to the end of the row. CH 1 and turn

Row 3 SL ST BLO of the first stitch. Repeat SL ST FlO in each of the next stitches to the end of the row. CH 1 and turn

Repeat row 2 and row 3 until the swatch is tall enough.
