Mad For Plaid Crochet Placemat Pattern

These easy to crochet plaid placemats work-up easily in 100% cotton.

1st row: (RS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. (1 hdc in next ch. Ch 1. Skip next ch) 4 times. 1 hdc in each of next 38 ch. (CH 1. Skip next ch. 1 hdc in next ch) 4 times. 2 hdc in last ch. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first hdc. (1 hdc in next hdc. Ch 1) 4 times. 1 hdc in each of next 38 hdc. (Ch 1. 1 hdc in next hdc) 4 times. 1 hdc in last hdc. Break A. Join B. Turn.

3rd row: With B, Ch 2. 1 hdc in first hdc. (1 hdc in next hdc. Ch 1) 4 times. 1 hdc in each of next 38 hdc. (Ch 1. 1 hdc in next hdc) 4 times. 1 hdc in last hdc. Break B. Join A. Turn.

4th row: With A, as 3rd row. Break A, join C.

5th row: With C, as 3rd row. Break C. Join A.

6th row: With A, as 3rd row. Break A, join D.

7th row: With D, as 3rd row. Break D, join A.

8th row: With A, as 3rd row. Break A, Join E.

Next row: With A, ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc and ch-1 sp across. Fastem off.

Vertical Surface Sl St Lines:

With RS facing, join B with sl st to center first ch-1 sp at foundation row at back. Keeping yarn at back (WS) of work, sl st into each ch-1 sp in alternate rows above joining sp to create a straight vertical line of surface sl sts to top of Placemat, taking care to sl st loosely to avoid pulling in work as you stitch. Fasten off.

Rep Vertical Sl St Line in following sequence: C, D, E. Turn Placemat and rep for opposite side edge.

Finishing

With RS facing, join E with sl st to any corner. Ch 1. Work 1 rnd of sc evenly around each side edge, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
